Nothing Left to Do But Wait
I am very excited to be leaving for Cape Town in a little over 60 days. I've paid my full program fee, bought my plane ticket (paid that off the credit card, too), and have done all that I can to prepare for my trip. I've bought the books, read those books, been poked with needles for immunizations, bought new (large) luggage, and done everything I can do to prepare. Now I must wait. Time passes so slowly when you are waiting.
14 days before my departure I will know my volunteer placement. I'm so anxious! I hope I'll be volunteering in local schools. I'll have to buy a bunch of skirts and polos, though, since that is the dress code for women in schools in Cape Town. I don't mind.
There is a CCS Community (http://community.crossculturalsolutions.org/) which is somewhat like facebook for CCS volunteers to connect with one another. I've met several people already who I will be living with at the home-base in Cape Town. One person will be on the same flight from New York to Cape Town! Through this site I've seen pictures of the home-base and I'm even more excited to go. The city is beautiful, our house is more modern that I anticipated, and I'm thrilled to be spending three months there.
I'll be taking a hiatus from my job for four months, from the begining of October until the end of January. That's right, my boss asked me to come back to my job after I return from South Africa! I'm thrilled. Based on this half of the year's sales and a prototype that's in the works, he hopes to give me a pay raise and some medical benefits! Before I leave for South Africa, I'll be traveling to New Mexico to see the International Balloon Fiesta and scope out the state some more. My plans are to move there in a couple of years.
Last, but not least, I have a few recommended movies coming from my Netflix queue about the aparteid and South Africa. I will post my thoughts on the movies after I view them.
Goeie nag. (good night)
