Other Fundraising Endeavors

The pop can drive has been incredibly successful. I am astounded at the amount of pop cans that have been donated to me. I have an Access document keeping track of all my donation, but without referencing it, I'd be comfortable stating that I've raised close to $1,000 through my pop can drive (this includes my family's cans, AHS, a few from my dad's work, and friends donating). I haven't even started the neighborhood drive. I anticipate several hundred dollars from that drive too.

Despite the extreme success of the pop can drive, I am still in need of other funding endeavors. I have individual/business donations, but I am not yielding as much as I thought I would from my direct mail letters.

I had planned on a silent auction/graduation party at the end of May, however, I've been incredibly busy with my job and my photography that I just simply have not had the time to plan/organize this. From my direct mailing letters I have nearly $200 in tickets donated for a silent auction. I hope to solicit from local businesses for this auction.

I was in Troy Eccentric a few months ago regarding my trip, but with nearly $3,000 raised, I was thinking it might be time to release some press releases. But if I release a press release, I should include info for the silent auction, since that will be great news hook and increase the likelihood it will result in a story.

To those who are reading my blog, do you have any ideas to help me achieve my fundraising goal? I'd love to hear them. You can comment on this entry or email me at southafricaccs@katdavis.net.

Pop Can Drive

I am so excited and humbled by the support of Athens' teachers and the Environmental Club for giving me pop cans towards my trip. This last pop can drive yielded just under $100. Thank you! I am grateful and very appreciative.

Garage Sale Approx. Total

I sold many items at our garage sale, thank you to my parents for purging the house of unnecessary items and giving me the money. Thank you to all those who stopped by, who bought something, and donated money to me.

So far the total is about $500 from the garage sale. We still have a band saw to sell for $120 (I'll get about half the money), and a hutch for about $250. My fundraising total is nearing $3,000! Thank you to everyone who has supported me thus far.

Monday is another pop bottle fundraiser at Athens, added to the already nearly $20 from pop cans I've already returned, that's probably another $100 towards my trip.

My mom and I went shopping today for Mother's Day and I purchased luggage for my trip. I did not want to use old luggage for this trip. I wanted to invest in a decent set of luggage. I purchased this set with my own money (not money from my fundraising). I am pleased with the set and see many travels it will take with me. It is a four piece teal set, two uprights, a carry on, and a tote.

In 5 months and two weeks I'll be on a plane bound for South Africa! I can't wait. And I could not have done it without your support. Thank you.

Garage Sale

Two days (about 7 hours) of selling stuff and I've earned $267 towards my trip! How awesome! People are buying stuff, then rounding their purchases to even amounts and donating to my trip. I am amazing and excited. We're getting rid of the stuff we don't use in the house and I'm making great money for my trip. Thank you to all who stopped by, to those who bought items, and those who gave a little extra for me. I greatly appreciate it.

I'll be open Sunday and next Thursday as well.
